Yes, it’s widely considered the premier sunset spot in Rhode Island — and one of my favorite places for a proposal. Beavertail sits at the southern tip of Jamestown, giving you an unobstructed, panoramic view of the sun dropping straight into the Atlantic.

It’s become a real local tradition. On most summer evenings, I’ll be wrapping up a shoot just as the sun dips below the horizon, and I walk past folks who’ve set up on blankets near west side parking lot — some in lawn chairs, some just leaning against their cars — all there for the same reason: to watch that daily show unfold.

The west-facing orientation also means a long, soft golden hour, which is exactly what you want for photography. That natural backlighting on the cliffs is incredibly flattering, and it’s a big part of why Beavertail is one of the best spots in RI for a surprise proposal.
