Jake’s Unforgettable Newport Helicopter Tours Proposal

Some proposals unfold exactly as planned. Others throw in a rain delay, a champagne toast while sheltering from the storm, and a forgotten set of car keys — and somehow end up even more memorable for it.

Proposal #292 was one for the books. Captain Jeff and the team at Newport Helicopter Tours flew Jake and Amanda out on The Island Tour, soaring over Newport before landing on a private island in Narragansett Bay, where two Adirondack chairs and a handful of sweet surprises were waiting. (I had previously been flown out to to the island to lie in wait.) Right on cue, the sky opened up the moment they sat down. So while I held my ground under a nearby tree, the happy (almost-engaged) couple ducked back into the helicopter to ride out the storm in style, champagne in hand.

Ten minutes later, the clouds parted, the couple walked back to those chairs, and the moment played out exactly as it was meant to. Pure magic — and a “yes” worth the wait.

The story didn’t end there. On the flight home, my AirTag pinged that my car keys were still sitting on the island. Captain Jeff, after landing and checking my bags, turned that helicopter right back around to rescue them — and me. Two flights, one unforgettable day, zero regrets.
