Personally, I think Beavertail State Park is one of the best places to drop to a knee and propose. Why? It has a gorgeous rocky shoreline, well-maintained grass parks, short rails, easy-to-access flat rocks above the ocean, and a lighthouse! Additionally, Beavertail is home to Battery Whiting (2), a reinforced concrete, World War II 3-inch coastal gun battery.
Beavertail is easy to access, and there is no entrance or parking fee.
Like all coastal locations, Beavertail can be windy, but there is the ability to move around the park when faced with such conditions.
If you want dramatic coastal imagery for your proposal, it is tough to look past Beavertail. Please note that because Beavertail lies North to South and the sunsets in the west, it is best for late afternoon and evening photoshoots, at least for the proposal itself, to be conducted on the Newport (East) side of Beavertail.
I would avoid mid-day shoots in the summer on Beavertail as there is very little shade. Vertical shadows are not very complimentary.
Typically, after a proposal, I conduct a mini-engagement shoot and use all the scenery that Beavertail offers. Check out these Beavertail surprise proposal photoshoots.
I hope you enjoy this selection of photos from the different locations as identified on the map.
