Roger Williams Park Proposal: How Carlos Surprised Madison at the Bandstand
A Last-Minute Location Change Made It a Total Surprise
Proposal #299 was a close one, and it ended perfectly.
The Plan
Carlos planned an evening walk with Madison through Roger Williams Park before dinner, ending at the bandstand and fountain. He scouted the spot the weekend before, sent me recon photos, and walked me through his plan on a Zoom call.
The Twist
When I arrived, I saw the problem. The view was beautiful, but the plants around his spot would have hidden the two of them in the photos. I found a more open spot nearby, took a quick photo of it, and texted it to Carlos with instructions. 🤞
This is why I always check proposal locations in person. Phone photos don’t show how the angles, light, and foliage will look through a camera lens.
The Moment
Carlos handled it perfectly. He got down on one knee, and Madison had no idea it was coming. Nicely done, Carlos. 💍
Proposing at Roger Williams Park?
With its historic architecture, water views, and quiet corners, Roger Williams Park is one of Providence’s best proposal spots, especially the bandstand in evening light. Visit at the same time of day you plan to propose, think about how the spot looks from the camera’s position, and keep a backup location in mind.
After 299 proposals and 17+ years, I’ve learned that almost every one needs an adjustment on the day. If you’re planning to pop the question anywhere in Rhode Island, let’s plan it together.
